Yesterday my hubby and I went with my sister and brother-in-law to the Thomas Hooker Brewery for a tour. We had gotten a “groupon” type deal on tour tix at the beginning of the summer and decided it would be a fun thing to do in the fall. It’s about an hour from where we live. We’ve never driven by a brewery before so we were surprised at how small it is! It may be small but they have a really efficient system there and it was quite interesting learning about the beer making process (despite the fact the my sister and I don’t even drink the stuff!) These aren’t the greatest quality pics since I used my cell phone but I still wanted to share our fun time!
Pretty fall foliage!
This is the outside of the Visitor’s Center and what we saw when we drove up.
The silos where the grains are stored.
The vat of beer where the yeast gets filtered out.
Food-grade pool filter – the last step before bottling the beer.
They hand fill the kegs using this set up.

We all had a fun time and are looking forward to doing another brewery tour next fall, possibly in Boston at Sam Adams or one of the other breweries in that area.

Looks like you had a great time! It seems like there are quite a few breweries popping in in VA these days, so I need to make it to a tour myself!

Sounds like such a fun tour! I’ve never been to a brewery before…

How fun that you all got a look around! I’ve been in a winery, but not a brewery, thank you for sharing the tour! 🙂 hugs, Kimberly
