January Books Roundup

I started the new year off with a bang!

I started 2 books on New Year’s Day and finished one of them on the 3rd.

6 Rainier Drive by Debbie Macomber – 5/5

This book was EXCELLENT!!  A new character was introduced and several characters were explored a bit deeper.  It was nice to get to know them a bit better. The mystery of who set the fire at The Lighthouse Restaurant was solved and I did NOT guess who it was. I was shocked!!  It made sense in the end but it was a curveball that I didn’t see coming.  I can’t wait to read the next installment but I think I will wait until next month.  Since there are only 6 books left, I want to spread them out through the year.

I also learned that there will be a Cedar Cove movie on the Hallmark Channel in June or July. SO very excited for that!!

Killer Crust by Chris Cavendar – 3/5

Interesting storyline…although I think the who-done-it really dragged out for too long.  I enjoyed the contest aspect of the book.  I really need to type out my thoughts right after reading the book instead of weeks later!

I’ve Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella – 4/5

Oh my…this book cracked me up!!  I think the premise of the book is pretty far fetched but it was really an enjoyable light read when I needed some happy in my days.  The only thing that drove me crazy is that the main character liked to add cliffnotes to her stories.  If I read it in paperback form, it would have been easy to go back and see what she was referencing but since I read it on my Kindle, I wasn’t going to go back and try to find them.

Living Single by Holly Chamberlin – 2/5

Well….I wasn’t thrilled with this book.  I bought it because I read Tuscan Holiday last year and really enjoyed it so after that I bought one or two more books by this author.  I thought the main character didn’t really value herself much by getting herself into the situation that she did. I’m glad that she finally grew a backbone near the end of the story. I did like how she got together often with her girlfriends, enjoyed reading about their outings and the food they ate.

Espresso Shot by Cleo Coyle – 4/5

Really enjoyed this book!  I heard that it wasn’t as good as prior books but I really enjoyed it.  I enjoyed seeing character growth in several of the main characters.  I always love reading about different New York settings too.  It never occurred to me “who done it” or why they would but then it made sense when it happened.  Sorry to be so cryptic but I don’t want to be the one to spoil a book for someone!

Shelter Me by Juliette Fay – 4/5

I started reading this since it’s an older book on my Kindle and I’m in a few challenges to just read existing books for the first few months of the year. I had no clue what it was about at first. It’s another I bought just because I liked another of the author’s books.  I really enjoyed it!  The main character had a major loss and it was interesting to see how she dealt with it through the course of a year.  The relationships that she made or forced away, how she did grow and also how she didn’t take crap from anyone.

My favorite book of the month was the Cedar Cove book by Debbie Macomber!

According to Goodreads, I’m ahead in my reading goal for this year already.  I wonder if I can keep up this pace, we’ll see!

So what did you read last month?
